Pian Upe Savannah Cottages is a Boutique lodge found in Pian Upe Game reserve. The lodge is located on one of the hills overlooking the vast plains which gives you a great view of the entire savannah. On the other side, you have a magnificent view of Mt. Kadam and Mt. Napak The lodge shares a boundary with the park and it’s so close to Uganda Wildlife Authority Park offices.
When you imagine Africa’s wilderness you are definitely thinking of Pian Upe. The untamed beauty of this savannah wilderness is comparable to none. This Wildlife Reserve is one of Uganda’s best-kept secret. It is that one protected area that has not been fully explored by many and one of kind safari destinations that still offer authentic African experiences.
The beautiful sunset coupled with the rich culture of the Karamanjongs and Pokot communities gives the park a vast advantage over many destinations in the country.
The wildlife is abundant and it’s only in Pian Upe and Kidepo where you can find the Giraffe, cheetah, and Ostrich in one park. Pian Upe is also host to Jackals, Civets, Spotted hyenas, Servals, Leopards, wildcats, Plains Zebras, Common eland, Grant’s gazelle, Topi, Cape buffalo, Blue and Common duiker, Klipspringer, Waterbuck, Bohor and Mountain reedbuck, Impala, Rock hyrax, Aardvark, Crested porcupine, Four-toed hedgehog among others.
For birder, about 242 bird species are confined in this wildlife reserve.
The reptiles include puff adders, water snakes, rock pythons, lizards and many more. It is dominated by tree species in red acacia, desert date, harrisonia Abyssinia, red spike thorns; shrubs like butterfly pea, wooly caper bush.
The Roan antelope (hippotragus equinus) an endangered species still surviving in a few countries in Africa is an endemic of Pianuppe in the country after its extinction in Kidepo and Mburo. It is one of Africa’s largest antelopes. The powerfully built Bovidae named for its color has a reddish–gray–reddish–brown coat with long pointed ears and long horns that are curved backward. Its underbelly is lighter, with white eyebrows and cheeks and black faces, lighter in females. They normally measure 190–240 cm (75–94 in) from the head to the base of the tail, and a 37–48 cm (15–19 in) long tail. Females weigh 223–280 kg while Males weigh 242–300 kg. The park is also a haven for birders. Pian Upe Savannah cottages is strategically located just about 1 ½ hours from Sipi falls and on the road to Kidepo via Moroto.
